Local and personal cookery close to nature
Ho Kro is situated in the small hamlet of Ho. Ho lies along the north western shores of Ho Bay and the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea National Park with the spectacular nature reserve Skallingen peninsular a few kilometers away. The low tide sea bottom route to the uninhabited Northen most Wadden Sea island Langli, also starts in Ho a short distance away.
The inn is run buy an hospitable husband and wife team. Mads Uhre Scmidt runs the kitchen and Christina Pagaard Thomsen coddles the dinners in the three connecting low ceilinged rooms that comprise the 35 seat restaurant. They have been running the small welcoming and relaxed restaurant since 2008 and have owned it since 2010. In 2008, before Mads and Christina took over the inn, it was a co-operative run by a group of people behind the historic annual sheep market in Ho, and used predominately by the few locals and hunting parties.
Mads and Christina refurbished the inn creating a more light and modern feel, but still maintaining the old inn impression with traditional furniture, pale green painted wood work and hunting accents such as butter knifes made of roe buck antlers. Mads also brought a intriguing more contemporary and personal culinary style to the inn. A style you could categorize as an approachable and comprehensible neo-Nordic style, based on traditional Danish cooking methods. The locally sourced seasonal ingredients are presented in generous and flavorful portions always with an innovative personal twist, and as we are in the west Danish countryside always with generous lavishing of delicious sauce or gravy and potatoes to cater to the locals expectations.
You can not sleep over at the inn but a short walk away you can find holiday apartments at Ho Holiday Centre, and the bustling coastal resort of Blaavand is only 8 km. away.
